California Supreme Court Upholds Ban on Same-Sex Marriage - NYTimes.com

This is so very depressing on many levels. I guess the upside is that civil unions are still permitted, but how can we continue to be so backwards?

The good new, from what I've read, is that the court upheld Prop 8's definition of the word "marriage."

But it also reaffirmed the court's prior expression of absolute support for complete equal treatment for same sex couples.

The court gave Prop 8 the word those people fought to define. But that's about all they got.

And they'll lose that in either 2010 or 2012, because it will come back for another vote, and another...
